The Science of Rhyme: An Evening of Neuro-Lyricism

April 16th, 7-9pm
218 E 25th Street
RSVP: https://web.ovationtix.com/trs/store/29885/donate/21805

In an exciting merging of science and stagecraft, hip-hop playwright Baba Brinkman and Cognitive Neuroscientist Dr. Heather Berlin will explore together how our brains are wired for “improvisational creativity”.

Dr. Berlin will present exciting new research on the neural basis of both musical and lyrical improvisation. Drama Desk Award Nominee and off-Broadway sensation Baba Brinkman, creator of The Canterbury Tales Remixed and The Rap Guide to Evolution, will perform excerpts of his work and take suggestions from attendees for on-the-spot improvisation.

With accompanying turntablism (improvised recombination of pre-recorded sounds) by DJ Jamie Simmonds, this will be an evening of entertainment and erudition, fabulous food and drink, and unscripted merrymaking.

Monies raised will go to support Brinkman and Simmonds’ “Darwin Meets Chaucer Off-Broadway” production, the first-ever hip-hop theatre cycle in New York!
