End of An Era

By January 28, 2012 One Comment

Okay, a hard closing date has now been announced, February 5th, for the Canterbury Tales Remixed off-Broadway. That means we got extended yet again (woop!), but the open-endedness has ended, and in one week we’ll be clearing out of the Soho Playhouse after performing six shows per week here since June 17th last year. It’s been a hell of a ride. For the lighter side of our New York success, check out this advert which ran in The Onion last week:

Calling all New Yorkers! Come see the show before it closes! Here’s a link to tickets, and to the New York Times Theatre Page, where we are STILL in the Critics’ Picks.

So what’s next? Jamie (Mr. Simmonds) and I are moving to Astoria, Queens, next week, where we’ll set up the recording studio and finally finish the album we’ve been working on for the past few months. I know I said it would be finished in December but I underestimated a few things, including our ability to set aside the time with our weekly gig schedule AND the tolerance of our neighbours here in Soho for loud beats being mixed and mastered. Several warnings from “the super” later, we’re relocating for the final push.

And then we go on tour. The Rap Guide to Evolution is touring in 2012 and beyond, and the first gig is coming up in a few weeks: Iowa City for Darwin Day. Tell all your Iowa people! Or, if you don’t have any Iowa people, check out rapguidetoevolution.com for upcoming tour gigs. Here’s the new youtube trailer for the Rap Guide to Evolution, now available for bookings.

In other music news, here’s the first single from an upcoming UK Hip-hop album I’ll be featured on called the Menagerie, from Tom Caruana’s Tea Sea Records label. Check out the video for Keep Your Heads Down, with my Brighton hip-hop fam Dizraeli and Teej. The full Menagerie album is coming soon so stay tuned!

And last but not least, here’s a nice arts feature from the Victoria Times Columnist, the local paper where I went to grad school, which gives a decent overview of everything I’ve been up to lately.

If any of you have written me emails in the past few months with no response, you’re not alone! Performing off-Broadway has wreaked havoc with my correspondence, but rest assured I will get back to you, just as soon as the show closes and I’ve slept for a week.

    Baba!

G-man writing to you from Victoria, BC. I’m an optometrist and am bringing my office staff (and my wife Zareen) to NYC for a conference the week of March 22-25.

We would have loved to see your show but i understand it just ended its run!

If you have any other shows the week we’re there, please let us know! Any chance the tour will come to Victoria this year?! Congrats on your success and kudos for your creativity.
